BEING NOSEY WITH ...

Stuart  Blakeledge

From  'The Sweetchunks Band!

First time I saw sweetchunks, If I am correct, sure my dad will correct me, was at Bostin' Days last year on the Friday night before when they supported The Leylines. I saw them and was confused to what sort of music they were going to play and what they would produce. DEAR GOD, I don't think I had ever laughed so much in a set, What a first impression they give too. I've seen them many a time since, sometimes with a 'Bonus Brian' thrown in to! So, Who better than to ask for an interview than the genius-but slightly mental frontman himself to do an interview with!

Firstly, how did you end up with a name like 'The Sweetchunks Band'?

My Brother in law tried to say “Alright Sweetcheeks!” but his tongue didn’t go along with his evil plans and he just yelled “OI SWEETCHUNKS” at me instead.

The idea really stuck when the words “Sweeetchunks” presented themselves to me in a bowl of Shreddies.
The Band bit was added because of a bladder infection.

Where was your first ever taste in live music?

In a septic tank in’t middle of’t road…. But we were ‘appy mind!

In a dirty old pub, long gone from Portsmouth’s Elm grove. “The Horse shoe” was a marvellous little pub that served the underage and put on local bands upstairs, in what can only be described as a bedsit with a stage.

I know the band is very well known for the 'Bee' song, but if there was one song you had to perform for the rest of your life what would it be?

3 minutes 44 seconds for piano by John Cage.

How would you describe the music your band plays?

Fuck knows! it changes week to week. Maybe an English Tenatious D?

What did happen to your drummer, if this is too much of a personal question, please don't be afraid not to answer!

He died in a mysterious gardening accident….

What has been the biggest moment for you and the band?

Playing the Isle of Wight festival this year. Still cant believe that the let us do that.

…That or punching a cyclops in the man package.

How long as a band have you been playing music for?

3 years….
3 long tedious, foreboding, underwhelming years of hopelessness

We all know that the booty loves Brian, but what other interests and hobbies do you have?

Stu: Jousting, Cartoons, Rugby, The Queen’s sweetface, bomb disposal and criticising others.

Ash: Pokemon, sleeping, Rugby, his bloody VW van and waiting for the newest Pokemon game.

Mike: Necromancy, Knitting, cats and tree herding.

As a band: Inappropriate drinking games, Castle storming, Drinking, group self-humiliation and Mario Kart.

If you had to come up with a slogan for the band, What would it be?

“Don’t look directly into his eyes”

What has been the most embarassing moment for you with the band, on or off stage. Don't be afraid to go into detail!

Congratulating the “bride and groom” at a lesbian wedding.

What has been the biggest influence for the music you play?

Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa and Billy Conolly I think

How would you get more people to support 'Live Music?

A Big fucking net.

Ash and Mike are the other members of the band. How did you meet them?

That is subject to the Official secret act and cannot be released for 70 years.

If you could play a gig with ANYONE of your choosing who would it be and why?

Brian Blessed, so I can find out if he truly is my father.

The Sweetchunks recently released an EP Called 'Please Make It Stop' well.. From listening to it i'm not sure I want it to stop. I'm sorry, but this band are comedy genius' live and on the EP. You can get this cracking EP on Itunes, bandcamp, and i'm guessing you can buy it from themselves when you go and see them at a gig or festivals this year!

You can get more information on the Sweetchunks Band by going to their website, facebook, YouTube, and Soundcloud  for regular updates and where to catch em playing! Thanks to Stuart for doing this with me, I have had the interview for a while but I wanted to keep it until I was ready to release it so.. Here you go!

So, there you go! Good start of the series for you I hope. I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! Thank you all so much for the continued support, If I could give you all a hug I would! You are all amazing, beautiful individuals! Right, anyway before I get soppy and stuff... See you all in a field or a music venue soon! <3
